We are one of 15 Clinical Research Networks (CRN) delivering health and social care research across England. We are passionate about the contribution that research can make, and work collaboratively with our partner organisations to translate that passion into the effective delivery of research studies across the Wessex region.

About us

Our network serves Hampshire, Dorset, the Isle of Wight and south Wiltshire. We make sure that research occupies the place it deserves in the day-to-day work of health and social care organisations across the region. We support research delivery by:

  • Helping to increase the opportunities for patients and the public to take part in research across health and social care settings
  • Working in partnership with NHS trusts, CCGs, universities, local government and research funders to enable world-class research
  • Providing professional support services for the effective delivery of health and social care research
  • Improving the environment for commercial contract research
  • Supporting sites to manage their study performance and deliver to time and to target

In 2019/20, we:

  • Supported the delivery of over 1,800 studies
  • Helped to recruit over 37,000 participants into studies
  • Gathered feedback from adult participants, 91% of which reported that they had a good experience of taking part in research

We are part of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), the nation's largest funder of health and care research.  We are hosted by University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
