What we do
We are one of 15 Clinical Research Networks (CRNs) in England, delivering research to make patients, and the NHS, better. We are passionate about the contribution that clinical research can make to patient care, and work collaboratively with our partners to translate that passion into the effective delivery of clinical research studies in the North Thames area.
CRN North Thames supports research delivery by:
- Helping to increase the opportunities for patients to take part in clinical research across 30 health specialties
- Providing professional support services for the effective delivery of health research by our partner organisations
- Improving the environment for commercial contract clinical research in the NHS within North Thames.
Where we work
Our Network serves north-east and north-central London, south and west Hertfordshire, south Bedfordshire and south-west and mid-Essex.
We cover the London boroughs of Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Camden, Islington, Westminster, Tower Hamlets, City of London, Hackney, Newham, Redbridge, Waltham Forest, Barking and Dagenham and Havering, and the Essex local authority areas of Rochford, Castle Point, Basildon, Brentwood, Epping, Harlow and Chelmsford.
We are hosted by Barts Health NHS Trust and work with healthcare providers across the region including 20 NHS trusts, four Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) and more than 850 GP practices. We also work with social care organisations, including local councils, to deliver research in the community.

Who we are
Our core network team is based on Tottenham Court Road in central London. The team support the delivery of research studies on the CRN North Thames portfolio, provides a study support service for both commercial and non-commercial studies and provides a costings and contracts service for the network. They also help sites stay on top of their study performance to deliver on time and meet their recruitment target.
How we are funded

Our agile workforce
The agile workforce is a team of Clinical Research Practitioners that can support NIHR-adopted Portfolio studies in non-NHS settings. This new initiative aims to support research activities outside of the classic clinical setting. The agile team is here to help with engagement, study set-up and delivery. We want to reach out to our underserved communities and improve care for all.
