COVID-19 vaccine research in Wessex

As the NHS rollout of approved vaccines progresses, research into other COVID-19 vaccine candidates continues. Different vaccines work in different ways and we still need to collect important information such as:

The best way to use vaccines
The number of doses required

Throughout 2021, the Wessex COVID-19 Vaccine Hub will deliver additional studies. For example, we'll be researching vaccines for children and young people, pregnant women and exploring different combinations of approved vaccines and the interval between doses. We're also leading a world-first COVID-19 vaccine booster study, looking at different COVID-19 vaccines as potential boosters, given at least 10 to 12 weeks after a second dose.

This vital research would not be possible without healthcare professionals and support staff from across the region.

Paid opportunities for healthcare and support staff in Wessex

A huge thank you to everyone who has expressed an interest in supporting the delivery of COVID-19 vaccine studies in Wessex.

Following an extended period of training, induction and onboarding, we have welcomed healthcare professionals and support staff to our research hubs in Bournemouth, Southampton and Portsmouth.

If you are keen to support the delivery of future COVID-19 vaccine studies in Wessex, please complete our online expression of interest (EOI) form.

You do not have to be experienced in research to get involved, full training and support will be given to enable the safe and effective delivery of studies.

If you are currently employed, please discuss your intention to apply with your line manager prior to completing our EOI form.

Where applicable, you will be asked to provide your line manager’s contact details and they may be contacted by members of the Hub team to discuss your application.
