More about our region and facilities

Our state of the art facilities and extensive regional connections make us a prime destination for delivering your research studies.  Our connections  span primary, secondary and tertiary care services, which combined with our collaborative ‘City of Research’ culture and integrated data systems provide extensive recruitment reach. Add to this our patient-centred approaches and PRC: Bradford becomes an excellent choice for delivering clinical trials.

Our region

The Bradford region is culturally diverse with a large Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) population with the largest proportion of people of Pakistani ethnic origin in England. One in four people living in the district describe themselves as Asian /Asian British ethnic origin, compared to under 1 in 10 people on average for England. We have the 4th highest proportion of under 16 year olds in England. This provides unique opportunities for commercial research studies.

We draw upon this diversity to ensure our workforce and target population reflect this and our multilingual staff and interpreters ensure equity of access for our diverse communities.

Regional partnerships

Bradford is an area of high disease prevalence, however, our population is very engaged in research with research firmly embedded with a culture from ‘cradle to grave’ (from childhood to elderly.  We have strong local and regional links and collaborations with other NHS Trusts, primary care and local government, and many research partnerships with universities including the Universities of Bradford, York and Leeds. Our investment in these partnerships and collaborations has developed strong research networks across the city of Bradford, its surrounding 2.5 million West Yorkshire population, and the wider 5 million population of Yorkshire.

Integrated data systems

Our Connected Bradford dataset is one of the richest in the UK, with linked health (and educational/social care) data for 700,000 citizens. It contains deeply phenotyped/genotyped data from our world-class cohorts and is supported by one of the leading NHS-based research data teams. Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the most digitally developed NHS organisations with full Electronic Patient Records (EPR) and excellent system-wide linkage.
