Dedicated dietitian joins growing PRC: Leicester team

Fin2

In April 2023, Senior Specialist Research Dietitian, Fin Turner, joined PRC: Leicester to support the delivery of late phase, commercial research studies. Fin previously worked as a dietitian on the medical wards at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL), which hosts PRC: Leicester.

Fin delivers diet and lifestyle components of pharmacotherapy studies. He explains: “I provide an individualised approach to supporting research participants to make sustainable lifestyle changes through motivational interviewing and facilitating behaviour change. I have type 1 diabetes which gives me a unique insight when helping participants understand and manage living with a long term condition.”

When asked what Fin enjoys about his role, he explained: “Having come from an acute hospital setting where patient interactions are fleeting and often few and far between, being a research dietitian enables me to see participants regularly, allowing me to properly see a participant’s progress.”

As well as PRC: Leicester, UHL hosts and manages a wealth of NIHR research delivery infrastructure, including a Biomedical Research Centre, Clinical Research Facility, Clinical Research Network East Midlands and an Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (jointly funded by CRUK). It has also set up the National Centre for Drug Adherence Testing. This means that PRC: Leicester shares its site with, and has access to:

  • A clinical trials pharmacy
  • Full pathology services
  • Sample preparation laboratories
  • Imaging (CT/MRI/interventional radiology)
  • A DEXA scanner
  • Fully equipped gym for exercise interventions, and cardiovascular, respiratory and metabolic assessments
