The hugely popular Research Support Awards return for the third year.

Run by the NIHR Clinical Research Network Kent, Surrey and Sussex (CRN KSS), the awards recognise the people whose work is vital to the success of health and care research, but who do not work in research roles themselves.

A great many people play a pivotal role in delivering research, without holding any formal research role. The support of colleagues such as administrators, pharmacists and radiologists, as well as health and care professionals across the NHS and the wider health and social care community is often essential to the success of research. The Research Support Awards recognise the importance of this work.

Nominations are now open, with awards in three categories:

Dr Joanne Zamani, Chief Operating Officer for CRN KSS said: “The range and diversity of research projects being run across the region continues to grow, and collaborative working across teams and organisations is vital to that growth. These awards recognise the value of that collaboration.

“It is a chance to recognise the extraordinary efforts being made by teams and individuals whose work is so crucial to research,” she said. “It is also an important opportunity to demonstrate that research is something that everyone working in the health and social care sectors should be engaged in.”

Nominations can be made for teams or individuals who work in clinical or non-clinical roles. The judging panel will be looking for nominations that show people offering exceptional support to research studies as part of their, or their team’s, normal responsibilities within the last two years.

The awards are being run across the counties of Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Nominees must be employed by an organisation within the region at the time of nomination.
