West Midlands Research Nurses making a difference for the future
CRN West Midlands Research Nurses will be highlighting their different career paths and raising awareness of the trials and studies they are involved in this weekend, and why they are so passionate about the role research can play in the future of healthcare.
They are sharing their stories as part of International Nurses Day which is being celebrated this Sunday (12 May).
Three of those involved in delivering research in a wide range of studies across the NHS and wider care settings will feature in a social media campaign. Lynda, Sian and Sandra have shared their thoughts on the importance of research to the nursing profession. Ultimately they (and all of us) care about providing the best care we can to the public.
They have played their part in some of the 1,656 studies currently running in the West Midlands which include, the FOUND Obstructive Sleep Apnoea study as well as past research into Covid-19, and in gastroenterology, ITU and palliative care. Lynda Wagstaff, a Research Matron said: “Above all, a great research nurse is someone with a passion for change and who loves working with people.”
Carly Craddock, Chief Operating Officer of the Network, said: “We could not run this number and variety of research studies across the West Midlands without our experienced and committed Research Nurses, working as part of a research multidisciplinary team. It’s fitting to celebrate their contribution on International Nurses Day as generating the evidence base for care is part of Nurses’ everyday responsibilities
