South London midwife wants to spread the word about research
A south London midwife wants to spread the word about research as part of her NIHR Reproductive Health and Childbirth Research Champion appointment.
Vicky Robinson, a Senior Research Midwife from Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, was appointed as a research champion earlier this year. Her work covers different areas of women's healthcare, such as preterm birth and foetal medicine.
The midwife is keen to get others in the profession involved in research. She said:
"Maternity staff are often the first point of contact for women and are integral to the success of research studies. I'd love for them to see the difference research can make in people's care.
"Research is essential in ensuring that the care we provide is the most effective and appropriate for women and their families in various situations. Studies' results can also help to improve conditions and working situations for maternity staff.
"Working in research is an option for any midwife who is interested. I'd urge midwives to talk to and spend a few hours with their research colleagues to learn about the available career opportunities."
