Three teams from the North Thames region will be holding their breath this week, as announcements are made at the Nursing Times Awards, on 30 October.

The Children's Research Team at Barts Health NHS Trust and Research Nursing Team at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust have both been shortlisted in the Clinical Research Nursing category of the awards.

The Nursing Times Awards are amongst the most highly respected in the nursing and healthcare sector and seek to recognise those who bring innovation and excellence to the profession, across a wide range of nursing specialties.

The clinical research nursing award is sponsored by the NIHR, and recognises initiatives that contribute to achieving the NIHR's strategic priorities, such as leading sharing in best practice and improving awareness and understanding of clinical research nursing.

Moorfields’ team has been shortlisted based on a project designed to decrease anxiety for those involved in eye injections, whilst the team at Barts (pictured) are acknowledged for their excellent work in research with children.

A pan-London and Kent, Surrey & Sussex Clinical Research Network campaign has also been shortlisted. The “Keep Making a Difference” campaign is aimed at nurses and midwives and invites them to expand or transfer their existing clinical skills to a research nurse role.

The campaign reached over 700 nurses and midwives across four networks, spreading the word that working in research is a rewarding and exciting role, enabling nurses and midwives to make a valuable difference to patient care and outcomes.

The winners of the Nursing Times Awards will be announced on Wednesday 30 October 2019, at a glitzy awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.  All three teams have made an important impact on research and exemplify the best of the nursing profession.
