Research excellence celebrated at CRN East Midlands Research Awards 2024
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network (CRN) East Midlands held their Research Awards 2024 to celebrate research achievements from across the region.
In September 2024, the CRN East Midlands will complete its contract and evolve into a Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN) as part of a national reorganisation of the research landscape. For ten years, the CRN have been proud to have been one of the most successful networks in the country, and intend to continue this into the RRDN, offering increased research opportunities to improve health and care outcomes across our diverse communities.
The success of this network has been down to the skill and enthusiasm of the outstanding CRN team, engaged partners, and amazing research teams, who have collaborated to deliver research of the highest standard.
Held as an afternoon tea at Kilworth House in Leicestershire, the awards provided an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the achievements of the research community across the East Midlands in 2023/24.
Nominations were provided by research staff, participants and public contributors, to highlight the success of research delivery across 6 categories:
-Outstanding Achievement by an Individual
-Outstanding Achievement by a Team
-Exceptional Performance in Commercial Research
-Putting People First
-Rising Star
-Lifetime Achievement
Judges were tasked with assessing the nominees based on criteria such as innovation, impact, reach, engagement, and ambition.
The awards began with an opening speech by Professor Azhar Farooqi, Clinical Director for NIHR CRN East Midlands, followed by a keynote speech by Richard Mitchell, Chief Executive Officer at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
Attendees were then given an opportunity to find out more about the nominees shortlisted for the awards, before the winners were announced and presented with their prizes.
