New Primary Care Specialty Lead appointed for Cornwall: Meet Dr Nick Jacobsen, GP and Principal Investigator at North Coast Medical Ltd at Newquay Health Centre
Why did you apply for the position of Primary Care Specialty Lead?
I am a passionate flag waving clinical researcher in Cornwall having been conducting clinical trials of many and varied types for the last 7 years. I applied for the role of Primary Care Specialty Research Lead as I wanted to develop my role and become more fully involved in promoting research delivery in primary care in Cornwall and the South West.
What are you going to bring to the role?
I am very experienced in clinical research and have a wide perspective on healthcare delivery in Cornwall. I am a trained postdoctoral medical research scientist having worked in medical research prior to becoming a clinician. As well as breadth and variety of experience I am very passionate about clinical research delivery, and have a drive to champion primary care in Cornwall and the South West as a fantastic setting to conduct clinical research trials.
What are your hopes for research within this specialty?
I would love to see community involvement in research develop and become more established over the coming years. Research needs to become regarded as the norm in primary care and I want to work hard to establish this.

This is an exciting opportunity to champion clinical research in primary care in Cornwall and the South West and I feel privileged to be able to contribute to this.
