Midwife receives CRN Greater Manchester special recognition award

An experienced research midwife has become the first person to receive a new workforce recognition award from Clinical Research Network (CRN) Greater Manchester.

The CRN Greater Manchester Certificate of Achievement is a new recognition initiative designed to formally recognise excellence throughout the year. The certificate will be issued to selected teams and individuals who have made a valuable contribution to the delivery of health and care research in Greater Manchester, East Cheshire or East Lancashire.

Linda Peacock, Research Midwife Team Coordinator at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), was the first ever recipient of this accolade. She was presented with her certificate on her final day of service as Research Nurse Team Coordinator, before retirement. She is due to return to work at the Trust in June 2023 on a reduced schedule.

The certificate was presented by Sarah Fallon, CRN Greater Manchester Chief Operating Officer, and Janette Dunkerley, MFT Assistant Chief Nurse for Research and Innovation.

The nomination for Linda described how she has served all parts of the research midwifery team with distinction during her NHS career. The variety of her contribution has ranged from placental tissue acquisition for basic science research, to Recovery during the pandemic, to managing her fellow research midwives. During her entire career, Linda is described as being continually 'caring, friendly and funny' and extremely worthy of recognition.

Linda said: “I am so honoured to receive this reward. I love my job but most of all I love the people I work with and our research participants. It’s a real privilege to have the opportunity to contribute to research.

"Having worked for the Research and Innovation division over a long period of time, I have seen some very important improvements to patient care which inspire me daily, especially the reduction in stillbirth, preeclampsia management and treatments for Covid-19. My colleagues across the Research and Innovation family are a real pleasure to work with and have been such great mentors and friends to me, so thank you all.”

The CRN Greater Certificate of Achievement is currently open to CRN Greater Manchester Theme and Specialty Leads and core team staff to make nominations. Please contact janet.eastwood@nihr.ac.uk to make a nomination.
