Meet Jane Masoli: our new Ageing Specialty Research Lead

Jane Masoli, who has been appointed as the Ageing Specialty Research Lead.

Why did you apply for this position?

I am driven to improve inclusive research in the ageing population that is representative of the people that we are seeing and treating clinically, in the context of frailty and multi-morbidity, and to enhance the pathway from research to clinical impact and patient benefit.

What are you going to bring to the role?

This is a challenging time as we rebuild research enthusiasm and capacity post-COVID.

I hope to engage with colleagues working in ageing in secondary care and the community to support research in ageing. This includes working to up-skill colleagues across professions who may not have delivered research before or who may not have been research active recently.

As part of this I hope to set up a clinical research network/community of practice in ageing across the South West Peninsula.

What are your hopes for research within this specialty?

Ageing is a specialty that naturally aligns with other research specialties. I hope that we can facilitate clinicians to remain/become research active and grow research enthusiasm and capacity to support a growing portfolio of primary ageing studies and research co-managed with different specialties. Ultimately we want to do research that is externally valid and includes representative patients and their carers to impact on patient benefit.
