Greater Manchester Research Celebration Week
Research achievements made across Greater Manchester, East Cheshire and East Lancashire in 2019/20 will be recognised during a weeklong celebration.
Ordinarily, the Greater Manchester Clinical Research Awards take place each year in November, but this year’s event could not go ahead due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Instead, Clinical Research Network Greater Manchester (CRN GM) has organised a digital showcase to highlight the outstanding work that has taken place over the past year.
Titled “Greater Manchester Research Celebration Week”, it will take place between Monday 16 and Friday 20 November 2020. The week will focus on the countless local achievements made in both COVID and non-COVID research on the NIHR portfolio across Greater Manchester Partner Organisations.
CRN GM has collaborated with local partner organisations to create a variety of videos, infographics and other content.
This will be shared over the course of the week, providing an insight into the dedication that has been shown by research and support staff across our region.

Roger Spencer, Chairman of the CRN GM Partnership Board and Chief Executive of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Soon after the COVID-19 pandemic started, it became clear that we wouldn’t be able to hold our regular awards ceremony in November 2020. However, we felt it was very important that we still take time to reflect on and applaud the amazing work that has taken place in clinical research in Greater Manchester this year.
“Just like the NHS as a whole, our research community has responded tremendously to the major challenge presented by coronavirus - setting up and delivering studies incredibly efficiently and gathering vital data that has already helped answer some of the questions posed by COVID-19.
“Not only that, almost 52,000 people in Greater Manchester took part in research in 2019/20 before Urgent Public Health research began, and a great deal of hard work is ongoing to restart non-COVID studies and to find an effective vaccine.
“Greater Manchester Research Celebration Week aims to capture just some of this fantastic work and we invite you to get involved by congratulating people who have made a valuable contribution through our Note of Thanks.”
