Training and development in North Thames

There are many opportunities for your development within the NIHR Clinical Research Network North Thames. Introduction to Good Clinical Practice 

A practical guide to ethical and scientific quality standards in clinical research for experienced research delivery staff. This full-day workshop is designed to provide an introduction to Good Clinical Practice (GCP), the EU Directives, UK Regulations and Research Governance Framework requirements covering clinical trials and other NIHR Portfolio studies conducted within Secondary Care (primarily hospital based) settings.

Researchers and research delivery staff who are involved with recruiting to NIHR portfolio studies can attend any of the Good Clinical Practice (GCP) courses on offer across our network.

Good Clinical Practice Refresher

 A practical guide to ethical and scientific quality standards in clinical research for experienced research delivery staff. This three-hour workshop is for experienced research delivery staff who:

  • have previously completed either taught or online Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training
  • have recent practical experience of working in a clinical research environment
  • have a good understanding of the principles and quality standards of GCP and related frameworks.

Next Steps in Research

This two-day course has been designed for nurses and allied health professionals who are new to research posts (at least six months), or as a refresher for other staff who wish to be updated. Attendees must attend both days to complete the course.

Principal Investigator Essentials

This course focuses on helping Principal Investigators (PIs) to understand their responsibilities in leading the conduct of a research study. This includes:

  • how to recognise what makes an effective PI
  • knowing how to access support
  • understanding and reflecting on the skills and behaviours required to be an effective PI

Basics of AcoRD and SoECAT training

Learn about the application of the AcoRD principles when completing or validating a SoECAT, understand the national Excess Treatment Cost process and learn more about our local North Thames process for managing and processing SoECAT validations, supported by our AcoRD Specialists in the region.

Research and development training at North East London NHS Foundation Trust

North East London NHS Foundation Trust delivers a training calendar of research and development workshops, events and peer support groups to which all are welcome. The workshops are held at the Goodmayes Hospital site.
