How to do meaningful and effective Patient and Public Involvement (PPI)- Bite size skill-based sessions for researchers

A series of five bite size skills-based sessions for researchers on how to do meaningful and effective patient and public involvement (PPI). 

Free and open to all health and social care researchers across Wessex, the practical and interactive two-hour online sessions will focus on different aspects of PPI delivery. The programme is listed in full below. 

All those interested can register for a place online.  Applications close 26 July 2021. Successful applicants will be notified by 16 August 2021.

Please note, places are limited. Places are also free but there will be a charge for anyone who does not attend. Applicants are required to attend all five sessions.

Public members will apply and be prioritised using the same criteria and should be supported by their research team and/or PPI lead in their application. Travel and time reimbursement for their attendance would need to be met by the research team.

The sessions are being organised by the NIHR Southampton Biomedical Research Centre, NIHR Southampton Clinical Research Facility and NIHR Applied Research Collaboration Wessex, in collaboration with the Wessex Public Involvement Network, and are supported by the Southampton Academy of Research.

Managing group discussions. Strategies to get the most out of group discussions. Tips to manage more challenging personalities.

Session 4- 10:00-12:00, 13 October 2021

Getting the most out of your PPI activities. How to ensure that people can contribute. The importance of planning to ensure your activity is effective and successful.

Session 5- 10:00-12:00, 20 October 2021

Communicating in lay language. How to write and talk in a lay language and working with jargon.
