Our host trust, Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, is a world class centre for the delivery of late-phase commercial trials and has an impressive performance track record. Our PRC is located on the Bradford Royal Infirmary site where over £9 million has been invested in research infrastructure over the last decade to create the Bradford Health Research Hub - a focal point for our research expertise. 

 

Research Expertise

We support clinical research spanning a large number of therapeutic areas including: Respiratory Medicine, Cardiology, Diabetes, Stroke, Haematology, Nephrology, Oncology, Digestive Diseases, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatric & Neonatal Medicine, Maxillofacial, Dermatology, Rheumatology, Ear, Nose & Throat, Ophthalmology, Anaesthetics, Intensive Care Unit and Infectious Diseases. We currently have access to a large number of research active NHS clinicians who can lead your research either as chief or principal investigators

We also have dedicated, skilled and experienced specialist research teams in pharmacy, radiology, research management, and finance, as well as our clinical departments.

Track record

Our commercial research activity has grown by 10-15% year on year since 2014. Furthermore, for two consecutive years (2017-19) 80% of the commercial studies we delivered met their recruitment target on time. We continue to deliver large numbers of patients into the NIHR national commercial research portfolio from a wide range of clinical areas.

 

Recruitment Successes

In the last five years, we have recruited two ‘global first’, three ‘European first’ and three ‘UK first’ patients into commercial studies as well as being the highest recruiting site in the world for one study:

  • November 2017: First global participant in GSK COPD vaccine study: NTHI Mcat-002
  • November 2017: First European participant in AstraZeneca ANDHI severe asthma study
  • November 2017: First global participant for GSK: Impact
  • June 2018: Highest recruiting site in the world in a phase 1b study with Genentech: GX29915: UTTR1147A in Diabetic Foot Ulcers
  • November 2018: First European participant for ROCHE: RHINE study
  • November 2019: First UK and European participant for AstraZeneca: RESOLUTE study

 

Patient Experience

We have been delivering clinical research in Bradford for many years and we understand our success is built on providing research that is focused on the best possible experience for patients, while being responsive and agile for industry. Our PRC is a dedicated, high quality, clean and safe research space that offers a comfortable and friendly environment to research participants. It is fully accessible with dedicated parking and refreshments are also available. Our research participant experience is paramount and we pride ourselves on our excellent track record of this.

  • 96% of 657 people said they would consider taking part in research again at our PRC.
