Collaborate with us and contribute to research in your region
The national Patient Recruitment Centre initiative is purpose-designed to increase the UK’s capacity to deliver late-phase commercial clinical research and attract more studies to our region.
Partnerships and collaborations across the health sector in our locality are a key feature of our operating model. These connections, which include primary, secondary, community and social care organisations, extend our recruitment reach far beyond the hospital clinics in the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre area. This means that we can provide more opportunities for more patients to access cutting edge treatments and therapies by taking part in clinical research.
Why collaborate with us?
Our host organisation is Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which already supports over 100 clinical research studies year on year. These studies are delivered by our dedicated and highly skilled clinical research team who work across a range of specialties covering a multitude of diseases and conditions. We currently have over 40 experienced research-active NHS clinicians who lead research studies as Principal Investigators.
PRC: Blackpool is co-located with the Lancashire Cardiac Centre and Lancashire Haematology Centre, which are centres of excellence focused on offering the latest cutting edge treatments for our patient populations and our team works on a number of commercial studies within these areas. Our additional expertise in commercial research spans a range of clinical specialties from oncology to gastroenterology and respiratory disease. We already have a network of strong research partners including within our Blackpool footprint the Layton Medical Centre with Fylde Coast Clinical Research and across our wider integrated care system our partners include Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS FT, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay and the Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust. Our reach spans across The Clinical Research Network, Northwest Coast and the Clinical Research Network: Greater Manchester and includes the leading academic institutions of the University of Central Lancashire (uclan) Clinical Trials Unit and Lancaster University.
Collaborating with these and other partners is vital to our work. Demonstrating these connections will help attract studies that will meet the clinical needs of our patient populations. Through these important collaborations we can reach beyond the hospital’s specialist clinics and offer research opportunities to patients with conditions that are often managed in the community, for example by their GP or pharmacist.
At PRC: Blackpool we have a strong forward-thinking team and a culture of continuous improvement. We embrace innovation and we’re keen to explore new ways of working. So as well as using traditional research recruitment methods, we’ll be adopting new strategies, such as social media campaigns, which enable us to extend our reach, beyond our local region and engage with more potential participants.
