We have  a dedicated and highly skilled team of clinical research  professionals who cover a range of specialties with over 40 experienced Principal Investigators.

PRC: Blackpool  is co-located with  the Lancashire Cardiac Centre and Lancashire Haematology Centre, which are centres of excellence focused on offering the latest cutting edge treatments for our patient populations and our team works on a number of commercial studies within these areas. Our additional expertise in commercial research spans a range of clinical specialties from oncology to gastroenterology and respiratory disease.

We have established positive working relationships with primary care colleagues in Blackpool and work closely with our partner NHS Trusts within  the Northwest Coast Clinical Research Network footprint. We have also strong relationships with colleagues within the Greater Manchester Clinical Research Network. These connections enable  us to conduct large commercial trials effectively, accurately and efficiently.

At  PRC: Blackpool  we  understand the importance of supporting the life sciences industry to deliver research within the NHS. We have consistently achieved excellent late-phase commercial research time and target figures with average rates of 79% over the past 3 years.

This has led to repeat business and  year-on-year increases in both commercial and non-commercial studies being awarded to our host Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with a 30% increase in patient recruitment for commercial trials from 2019/20 to 2020/21.  To date we have worked with a number of pharmaceutical companies and Contract Research Organisations including Bayer, Roche, Novartis, Sanofi, Astrazeneca, GSK , Janssen, Pfizer, Lilly, Amgen and with Syneos, IQVIA and Paraexel.

The NIHR ‘Be part of Research’ app and website, allows patients to find studies in their local area. This is a great tool for recruitment to studies and allows a wider reach, it also allows the patient to specifically choose a study to suit their individual conditions. PRC:Blackpool also has a large social media presence, which is used as a recruitment tool, with 49% of volunteers from our vaccine study coming through social media.

So if you are looking to deliver commercial clinical research in the North West - come to the Patient Recruitment Centre: Blackpool  -home to  NIHR North West Coast Clinical Research Network Research Team of the Year 2020.
