Wessex research duo receive pioneer award

Two research staff working at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust have received an award for their contributions to research.

Jocelyn Walters, CRN Wessex Research Delivery Manager, and Jac Samuel, a Senior Research Nurse for Cancer Research UK, were presented with a Pioneer Award by EDGE.

EDGE is a cloud-based clinical trials management system which has been successfully embedded into much of the clinical research infrastructure across the UK.

The award was presented at the annual EDGE conference, which took place in Farnborough between 10-11 March 2020. The prestigious award recognised Jocelyn’s and Jac’s role in supporting and developing EDGE over the last twenty years.

EDGE, which operates within the Clinical Informatics Research Unit (CIRU) at the University of Southampton, has grown both national and international subscribers since its launch in 2000. The award was presented by Professor James Batchelor, Director of the CIRU.

Upon receipt of the award, Jocelyn and Jac said: “We are absolutely delighted to have received the EDGE Pioneer award.

“None of us involved in developing EDGE since 2000 could have imagined the way in which it has transformed management of clinical trials not just in the UK but in a growing number of countries worldwide.

“The excellent EDGE conference this week is testament to the power and relevance of this trial management system.”
