Congratulations to our Clinical Director Professor Saul Faust for being recognised for ‘Outstanding Individual Achievement’ at the University Hospital Southampton (UHS) Hospital Heroes awards.

In recognising Saul, the panel of judges said: “Saul has been supremely authoritative, he is trusted and always has a clear and calm voice. In recent months he has been called upon to unlock the science behind the pandemic.

“Saul has helped the public to understand what was happening and how they could help slow the spread of the virus. He is someone of whom we should all be extremely proud.”

The annual awards were renamed this year to reflect the heroes that rose to the challenges of the pandemic. The ceremony took place online due to the restrictions that are still in place across UHS to limit the risk of infection spread.

Clare Rook, Chief Operating Officer at the NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) Wessex, said: “It has been amazing to have Saul as our Clinical Director. His leadership and calm approach to the pandemic situation has been admirable and I couldn’t think of a better fit for this award.”

Many healthcare professionals were commended for their work in this year’s UHS Hospital Heroes awards, see the full list of winners on the Trust’s website.
