Webinar to help shape Greater Manchester's research in schools strategy
NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) Greater Manchester hosted an engagement webinar as part of its strategy to deliver more research in schools.
The online session, titled Research for Young People in Education, was very well attended by stakeholders from various partner organisations.
Discussion points, suggestions and new relationships from the afternoon will feed into the development of a strategy to engage schools across Greater Manchester.
The event on July 14 was led by Professor Kathryn Abel, a CRN Greater Manchester Domain Lead, and Emma Oughton, CRN Greater Manchester Assistant Research Delivery Manager.
Professor Sandeep Ranote, Consultant Paediatric Psychiatrist, was among the speakers, along with Anne Hambleton, Mental Health in Education Programme Manager at Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership (GMHSCP).
Prof Ranote, who is also GMHSCP’s lead for children’s mental health, spoke about the challenges facing children's mental health and wellbeing and the opportunities that lie ahead for research in this field.
The meeting also heard about shared experiences from NIHR colleagues who have embarked on similar work in South London.
Jo Henry, CRN Greater Manchester Team Lead Research Nurse, explained how CRN GM’s new Direct Delivery Team can support delivery in schools and Janet Eastwood, CRN Greater Manchester Head of Communications, spoke about the role of Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement.
There was also representation from consultants working in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and academics from the region’s universities.
