Showcase event held at PRC Blackpool

Blackpool PRC

Alex Maley and Melanie Caswell, Blackpool Patient Recruitment Centre (PRC), held a successful Showcase event on 5 December at Blackpool Teaching Hospital, which hosts the National Institute of Health Research's (NIHR) Patient Recruitment Centre for Blackpool.

The Showcase took the form of a drop-in session where anyone interested in research could learn more about the opportunities available for research as well as general areas of medicine including oncology, genomics and women’s health.

Organised to raise the profile of the PRC, a key aim was to encourage research projects by providing examples of clinical studies and trials taking place here as well as routes into research.

Research Performance Manager, Alex, specialises in service evaluations, homegrown studies and everything PRC-related whilst Melanie is an experienced Research Nurse who specialises in respiratory conditions and is part of the merged medicines cluster.

Alex said “The Showcase event was a fantastic opportunity to signpost people who are interested in research and reflects the number of enquiries we receive in the department. It’s clear there is a demand for events like this and a follow-up event will now be planned.”
