Senior Research Nurse Ben Hood wins 2020 Excellence in Cancer Research Nursing RCNi Nurse Award

In what has been a very challenging year for nursing, Cancer Research UK is delighted to announce the winner of the Excellence in Cancer Research Nursing category of the 2020 RCNi Nurse Awards – Ben Hood, Senior Research Nurse at the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre at Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Ben’s pilot project raising awareness of the important role of clinical research nurses in cancer services has reached over 2,000 student nurses so far, with plans to roll it out to the wider undergraduate nursing community as an e-learning resource in partnership with the NIHR.

“Winning this award is an incredible honour. The exposure it has given my project has been fantastic and I believe it will further raise awareness of research nursing and ultimately benefit patients on cancer trials and improve outcomes,” says Ben.

Congratulations to Ben and all the finalists, including Amparo Domingo Lacasa from University College London Hospital; the Early Phase Clinical Trials and Research and Innovation Teams at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre; and the Greater Manchester Education Team from The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.
