Researcher keen to champion south London research in trauma and emergency care
The co-chair of the NIHR’s Emergency Care Incubator wants to use her role to champion south London led research in trauma and emergency care.
The NIHR Incubators were established to support capacity building and multidisciplinary career development in priority areas where critical mass is low.
St George’s Hospital’s Consultant Nurse and Clinical Research Lead Professor Heather Jarman, who is also the Network’s Trauma and Emergency Care Research Specialty Lead, said:
“I’m proud to be working to promote the diversity of the professions that are involved in research in emergency care. This is a national role, which provides not only a great opportunity to support researchers but to also raise the profile of research in my area of work.
“We want the incubator to become the hub for emergency care research, the place where you go to access resources and to connect with others. The incubator was launched in June 2019 to bring together researchers who are interested in emergency care research.
“Emergency care research is growing at both a local and national level, so there is a lot that we can do to help each other. I’d encourage researchers to keep visiting our website to check out our latest resources and news.”
The NIHR currently has incubators set up in the following specialties:
- Primary Care Incubator
- Social Care Incubator
- Public Health Incubator
- Incubator in Health Data Science (in partnership with HDR UK)
- Emergency Care Incubator
- Nursing and Midwifery Incubator
- Incubator for Mental Health Research
- Methodology Incubator
- Incubator for Clinical Education Research
- Advanced Surgical Technology Incubator
This initiative aims to encourage early career interest in target disciplines to build identifiable communities through networking and the provision of training and development support. Incubators are intended to help where there is a recognised issue with research capacity that needs a community driven approach, that is bespoke to meet the needs of specific areas and communities.
CRN South London’s Research Delivery Manager Nhlanhla Mguni, who supports research within the Trauma and Emergency Care specialty, said: “We are very proud of Heather’s work in championing the Trauma and Emergency Care specialty at a national NIHR level.
“The Network is committed to supporting Heather in building research capacity and delivery in this area.”
