Prof Andrew Protheroe to leave role as co-clinical director

Prof Andrew Protheroe will leave his role as co-clinical director for the NIHR Clinical Research Network Thames Valley and South Midlands (LCRN) next week to become the national director for clinical research for GenesisCare.

He said: “I have been incredibly privileged to have worked within such a great organisation and am sad to be leaving after seven years as co-clinical director.

“I have learnt so much about clinical research from my colleagues, at all levels within the network. I am really proud to have seen so much success around all of our network and in particular how we as a network responded to the challenges of the last 18 months.

“For the network to have been involved in delivering world class research in developing treatments for COVID-19 and one of the vaccines is truly impressive.

“I thank all of you within the LCRN. You should all be so proud of what you have achieved to date and I have no doubt will continue to take clinical research to the next level.

“In particular I would like to thank Belinda Lennox, Val Woods and Mark Dolman for their time, knowledge, patience and incredible expertise. I look forward to my next challenge in the clinical research arena.”

Prof Belinda Lennox, clinical director for the LCRN, said: "I am really sad to be saying goodbye to Andy and I want to say a huge thank you to him. Andy has been co-director for the LCRN since 2014 and he really has been instrumental in everything that we have achieved over the last seven years. He has been a wonderful, collaborative colleague and leader and has worked tirelessly to improve delivery of clinical research.

"Thank you Andy, we will miss you and wish you all the best in your new ventures."
