Online ‘learning community’ designed to support research active staff

Online learning community v1 0

We know that more resources are required to support frontline staff in engaging with research, and to encourage non-research colleagues to engage with research. We also want to share with you more examples of ‘best practice’ in engagement and shared learning. This is why the ‘NHS Engagement Frontline Staff Community’ has been created.

The online community is available for staff to access and it is designed to:

  • To help frontline staff feel supported and equipped to engage non-research colleagues within the care environments in which they work
  • To inspire frontline staff to promote research within their organisation
  • To create a package of learning to support frontline staff when discussing research with colleagues, or encouraging colleagues to get involved in research
  • To enable frontline staff to communicate with one another and discuss both challenges and best practice examples.

The simple to use website is broken down into four main sections:

  • Success stories - Case studies of initiatives which have successfully engaged people in research, or promoted research within a Trust
  • Toolkit - Resources to introduce clinical staff to clinical research and to the NIHR, in order to encourage them to engage with research.
  • Forum - To enable staff to talk to one another and share advice/ best practice.
  • Self assessment quiz - To enable staff to evaluate their own practice.

Jo Taylor, Workforce Development Lead, said: “This looks like it a great resource that has the ability to grow to reflect the needs of and be shaped by front line staff. As a front line staff member myself, the ease of access, clarity and having resources all in one place is key.”
