Amanda Solloway MP, Minister for Science, Research and Innovation, recently took part in a COVID-19 vaccine trial at the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Patient Recruitment Centre: Leicester.

Over recent weeks, volunteers in Leicester and across the UK have been taking part in a study to test the effectiveness of a vaccine candidate for the prevention of COVID-19. The study has been taking part at the new Patient Recruitment (PRC), a government initiative funded through the NIHR.

Speaking after taking part in the trial, Amanda Solloway said:

“I was very glad to put myself forward for the trials and with the data gathered from all participants, the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) will be able to determine the efficacy of the vaccine. I would like to thank all the kind staff at Leicester’s Hospitals who kept me informed through every step of the process and were a great help.

“The staff were friendly, helpful and supportive. If you’re thinking of joining a trial, please do. It’s really important to take part in these vaccine trials. Medical research needs you so don’t hesitate, it really is a great experience.”
