Local Campaign Shortlisted for Award

A Pan-London and Kent, Surrey & Sussex NIHR campaign has been shortlisted in the Nursing Times Awards 2019. The campaign, called Keep Making a Difference, has been nominated in the Clinical Research Nursing category. It aims to raise awareness of the Clinical Research Nurse role and showcase this speciality of nursing.

The campaign, launched in September 2018, was developed in response to NHS Digital figures showing one in ten nurses are leaving the NHS in England each year. The project offered nurses the opportunity to explore a speciality of nursing they may not have previously considered.

The ‘Keep Making a Difference’ campaign invites nurses and midwives to learn more about clinical research nursing and demonstrates how to transfer existing clinical skills into a research nurse role. Those taking part can hear from research nurse champions, access one-to-one support and shadow a local research team to further understand the role.

The shortlisted campaign successfully communicates how rewarding a career in research can be, while offering the opportunity to be part of improving care and treatment of patients.

The campaign was led by Helen Graham, Lead Cancer Research Nurse at CRN North West London. She said: “Working in clinical research is so rewarding and having the opportunity to share my experience with over 700 nurses and midwives was a privilege”.

The winners of the Nursing Times Awards will be announced at a special ceremony on Wednesday 30 October 2019.
