LCRN Clinical Director moving on to global health role

Our Clinical Director Prof Manu Vatish is to move on to begin an exciting new role at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Prof Vatish has been appointed Deputy Director for Maternal and Child Health Discovery at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and will leave his LCRN role in mid-November.

He will continue in his role as Professor of Obstetrics in the Nuffield Department of Women’s & Reproductive Health at the University of Oxford.

The foundation aims to ensure that women and newborns remain healthy before, during, and after childbirth, including by supporting the development, testing, and scale-up of innovative solutions to address underlying vulnerabilities contributing to poor health.

Prof Vatish said: "I am humbled by the opportunity to take on the role of Deputy Director for Maternal and Child Health Discovery at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the CRN and will miss working in an environment that is adept at delivering health research at pace and to large numbers of people. I hope I can bring to the Foundation some of the valuable lessons I have learned here at the CRN."

LCRN Chief Operating Officer Val Woods said: "Manu has been a fantastic leader and ambassador for the CRN over the last 12 months. We have really enjoyed working with him and we will all miss him.  This is an amazing opportunity to make a real difference to healthcare for women and children around the world and we wish him every success as he takes on his next big challenge with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation."
