International Clinical Trials Day: a thank you from our Chief Operating Officer

Paula Aubrey

Thank you!

To everyone in our region who supported International Clinical Trials Day this year – and even as I write, there are more events to come - I would like to offer my most sincere thanks.

As the NIHR helps record numbers of people into health and social care research, with more than 870,000 participants in 2018/19, we know that without the wholehearted support of NHS trusts and CCGs in campaigns such as International Clinical Trials Day, research wouldn’t enjoy the profile it does among researchers, patients and the public.

We are fully aware that there is always room for improvement , but we are so grateful for the tremendous  support everybody gives us in getting the message out there.

This year, we had events going on at nearly 20 of our partner trusts – with some having more than one event – and we shared some great pictures on our Twitter feed. From roving research trollies and stands in shopping centres to full-scale conferences, this year has seen it all.

Increasing the number of people taking part in clinical research is a key part of the NHS Long Term Plan and the NIHR has taken steps to support this by launching a new website called Be Part of Research - which helps people to easily find and  take part in studies across the UK.

We hope that it will be another step towards the NHS Long Term Plan’s goal of one million people taking part in clinical research by 2023/24 - part of the Government’s strategy to improve care, treatment and NHS services in England.

So once again a big thank you from all at the CRN North Thames.
