Healthcare innovators urged to enter ‘bright ideas’ to North East and North Cumbria awards
Health innovations that have transformed patient care over the last few years are to be recognised as the Bright Ideas in Health Awards return.
During the pandemic, healthcare innovations have been developed, evaluated and adopted at speed and scale as innovators stepped up to the challenges posed by the virus.
NIHR Clinical Research Network North East and North Cumbria is proud to sponsor this year’s event which will culminate in a virtual ceremony in November. Winners will be announced at the ceremony and will receive a cash prize and support from innovation experts at the AHSN NENC to progress their ideas.
Organised by the Academic Health Science Network for the North East and North Cumbria (AHSN NENC), the Awards are open to individuals and teams from across the NHS, including those in Primary and Secondary Care, universities, and regional businesses and organisations working within the health sector.
The ten categories for this year are:
- Development of an Innovative Device or Technology, sponsored by The Centre for Process Innovation (CPI)
- Digital Innovation in Health and Social Care, sponsored by sponsored by NENC ICS Digital Care Programme
- Celebrating Innovation Related to the COVID-19 Pandemic
- Outstanding Industry Collaboration, sponsored by RTC North and Innovate UK EDGE
- Demonstrating an Impact upon Patient Safety and/or Quality Improvement
- Innovation in Hospital or Community Education, sponsored by Health Education England North East (HEENE)
- Innovation Champion Award
- Making Healthier, Happier Places and Spaces – Innovations in the Built Environment
- Research Impact Award, sponsored by NIHR Clinical Research Network North East and North Cumbria
- Helping our Workforce to Recover from the Pandemic* (A collaboration between AHSN NENC and Yorkshire & Humber AHSN), sponsored by NHS England and NHS Improvement North East and Yorkshire
This Research Impact Award category is open to organisations in the North East and North Cumbria and is sponsored by NIHR Clinical Research Network North East and North Cumbria.
This award will be presented to the research team of an NIHR Portfolio study that has demonstrated innovation in the way a study has been delivered during the pandemic across the North East and North Cumbria. Examples could include: innovative staffing models, adapting processes, or delivering a service in a different way e.g. virtual or home-based
As part of the entry criteria for the Research Impact Award, please ensure you address the following:
- Clearly outline the problem that the research team encountered with delivering a study during the pandemic.
- Describe what you did to solve the problem.
- What was the outcome of the change you made?
- What did you learn that will help deliver studies in the future?
Entries will be assessed on the following:
- Innovation: originality of the approach Value: impact of the initiative on study delivery
- Patient focus: evidence that patient/service user need was central to the solution
- Collaboration: evidence of the involvement of other professionals, services and/or patients/service users in the project
- Leadership: evidence of entrants sharing their innovation in their organisation or more widely
