Gastroenterology CRN researchers recognised with award

CRN South London’s Gastroenterology Specialty Group Lead, Richard Pollok, has spoken of his pride after gastrointestinal researchers working in the region won a research recruitment award.

The National Institute for Health Research ‘Best Recruitment to Time and Target’ Award was presented to Dr Pollok at a Gastroenterology Specialty Group Meeting held at the Wellcome Collection in London.

Dr Pollok, who is a Consultant Physician and Reader in Gastroenterology at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said:

“This fantastic achievement is down to the efforts of the researchers working in south London, and I’d like to thank our principal investigators, research nurses, research assistants and research and development teams for all of their hard work.

“As a group, we have a realistic attitude towards setting our patient recruitment targets, and we try not to overreach.”

CRN South London recruited 1,999 gastroenterology research participants in the 2018-2019 financial year, which saw the network finish fifth in the country for unweighted recruitment. This measure includes recruitment in the region to all studies within the specialty.

The gastroenterology specialty is in CRN South London’s Division Six, and the network’s Chief Operating Officer Dr James Lyddiard said: “I want to congratulate Richard and all of the gastrointestinal researchers working in south London on winning this award, and would encourage them to just keep doing what they are doing. It is essential that we remain competitive by setting realistic but also aspirational targets for the delivery of studies.

“Well done all.”
