Gastroenterology Awards

North East and North Cumbria recognised for their achievements in delivering gastroenterology research.

Awards have been handed out to local specialty leads supporting research in the Gastroenterology specialty.

The awards were given in recognition of the work that their Local Clinical Research Networks have done to improve the delivery of clinical research studies on the NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) Portfolio.

Professor Mark Hull, National Specialty Lead for Gastroenterology handed out five awards. He says:

“Good delivery of clinical research studies on the NIHR Portfolio is due to committed clinicians including nurses working alongside their clinical roles. It’s not always an easy balance between clinical and research responsibilities, so it’s important to recognise the huge efforts that go into making research a priority locally.”

Professor Matt Rutter, Gastroenterology Specialty Group Lead at CRN North East and North Cumbria, who accepted two awards, on behalf of his local network, for the greatest improvement in recruitment and for greatest increase in studies by a CRN says:

"I am delighted to receive these awards on behalf of CRN North East and North Cumbria Gastroenterology team. I am pleased that the hard work of the team has paid off and the awards demonstrate the high level of motivation across the region from investigators to improve patient care through research, which is an NIHR priority for the NHS."
