Free online talks about health research

How research is helping improve the lives of millions of NHS patients is the focus of a series of online talks from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).

The five talks by Oxfordshire researchers are part of the If Oxford Science + Ideas Festival, a two-month programme of online events from Oxfordshire Science Festival charity.

The NIHR talks are:

  • Why losing a few pounds is good for you. Susan Jebb, Professor of Diet and Population Health at the University of Oxford’s Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences. 6 October, 6pm.
  • Why your body clock is important for health. David Ray, Professor of Endocrinology in the University of Oxford’s Radcliffe Department of Medicine. 12 October, 6pm.
  • Childhood anxiety – helping parents help their children. Prof Cathy Creswell, University of Oxford. 19 October, 6pm.
  • How to imitate a pancreas (developments in diabetes technology). Professor Katharine Owen, consultant in diabetes at Oxford’s Churchill Hospital and Dr Rachel Besser, consultant in paediatric diabetes at Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital. 26 October, 6pm.
  • Pelvic pain: diagnosing endometriosis sooner. Christian Becker, associate professor at the University of Oxford’s Nuffield Department of Women’s and Reproductive Health. 28 October, 6pm.
