Eastern nurses appointed to prestigious 70@70 programme
Five of the Eastern region’s senior research nurses have been chosen for the NIHR’s prestigious 70at70 Leadership Programme. The Programme aims to “foster a culture of innovation’’ and develop the previously untapped potential contribution of nurses and midwives to the NIHR.
The programme will last for three years with the ultimate goal being, according to Programme Leader and Associate Director of Nursing at the NIHR, Clare Meachin “delivering high quality evidenced based nursing and midwifery practice.”
The research nurses join 65 other senior nurses and midwives who have also been chosen for their experience in building research-led care environments for patients.
The five successful nurses are:
- Carina Cruz (East & North Hertfordshire NHS Trust)
- Fiona Maxton (North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust)
- Louise McCarthy (Norfolk & Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust)
- Victoria Sharman (Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust)
- Claire Whitehouse (James Paget NHS Foundation Trust)
The successful appointees will be supported in dedicating two protected days a week to the programme. Their roles will see them acting as a proactive champion for nursing and midwifery research, encouraging research collaborations and the sharing of research knowledge and skills, among other leadership responsibilities.
Fiona Robertson, our Chief Operating Officer said "We are delighted to announce the appointment of five of our nurses to this prestigious Leadership Programme and offer our congratulations to all! Building on the trailblazing work they have already led by example in, we look forward to supporting them in strengthening the relationship between frontline nursing, midwifery and NIHR research. They are a great asset to our region and beyond."
The NIHR’s 70@70 Leadership Programme has the potential to greatly improve the orientation and focus of NIHR research as well as the working environment of frontline nurses and midwives. A 70@70 launch event will take place in London on Thursday 9 May with Louise Wood, Director of Science, Research and Evidence, Department of Health and Social Care, confirmed as a keynote speaker.
