Dr Alan Bagnall announced as Deputy Clinical Director

 
NIHR Clinical Research Network North East and North Cumbria is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Alan Bagnall as Deputy Clinical Director.

Alan studied medicine at Leeds University and completed a research PhD and higher specialist cardiology training at Edinburgh University. He then trained in interventional cardiology in Toronto, Canada, before joining Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as an Interventional Consultant Cardiologist in 2008 and was appointed as Clinical Director of Research and Development in 2016.

Dr Bagnall said: "I am delighted to be appointed as Deputy Clinical Director of the network. The North East and North Cumbria is one of the best places in the UK to deliver research with outstanding hospitals, key NIHR infrastructure and strong academic partnerships.

"I look forward to tackling our region's health inequalities by ensuring that our patients have the best access to new medicines and innovations through participation in research trials."

Professor Caroline Wroe, Clinical Director said: "I am delighted to welcome Alan to the network, he brings a wealth of experience of R&D leadership and a love of cycling to the team."

Dr Bagnall formally takes the post of Deputy Clinical Director on 1 February 2020.
