CRN West Midlands appoints new Deputy Clinical Directors

Professor Christopher Imray (pictured, left) is the DCD for Commercial Research and Strategy. He is a Consultant Vascular and Renal Transplant Surgeon at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust, and Director of the Coventry NIHR Clinical Research Facility, said: ‘I am absolutely delighted to be appointed and am looking forward to bringing a ‘can do research’ approach and experience to the regional team.’

Professor Imray has led the setting up of several early phase clinical trials (I & II) so improving access for patients to novel therapies, and is recent past President of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland.

GP Dr David Shukla (pictured, right) has been appointed DCD for Primary Care and Integration. He is a Partner at Eve Hill Medical Practice in Dudley, is also the Network’s Clinical Research Lead for Primary Care, and Co-Chief Investigator on the ground breaking Dare2Think study. He added: ‘This is a challenging time for research in the West Midlands but it also offers a wide range of opportunities. Amongst other things, I will work with colleagues and partners to ensure that research is embedded into the work of the Integrated Care Systems from 2022.’

The Network’s Clinical Director, Professor Matthew Brookes said: ‘We’re delighted to announce these appointments. Chris and David bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the Network, and we look forward to working closely together in the future’.
