CRN Wessex is delighted to announce the appointment of a new Mental Health Specialty Lead, Professor Samuele Cortese.

Professor Cortese is a Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from the University of Southampton and has worked in the field for over 20 years.

In 2020 Professor Cortese was included in the list of the world's most influential researchers of the past decade, demonstrated by the production of multiple highly-cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations in the fields of psychiatry and psychology in 2019 in Web of Science.

He started his post in April 2022, taking over from Professor Shanaya Rathod who stepped down in March 2022.

Of his appointment, Professor Cortese said: "It’s an exciting time to be stepping into the post of Mental Health Speciality Lead in Wessex. We already carry out so much important mental health research in the region, it will be fantastic to look to build upon that and increase the opportunities for patients and the public to get involved in health and social care research.

Professor Cortese added: "I’m looking forward to working closely with clinical teams in the region and gaining an insight from their expertise in the field to develop mental health research in the region.”
