NIHR Clinical Research Network North West Coast (NIHR CRN NWC)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the posts of Clinical Director and Deputy Clinical Director of the NIHR CRN NWC. These are prestigious regional and national roles as part of the NIHR infrastructure with a focus on the provision of strong Clinical Leadership for the CRN NWC. The post will be appointed by a formal interview panel led by Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which is the Host Trust for CRN NWC.

CRN NWC have ambitious new plans to increase research opportunities for the population of north west coast. With a new strategy and plans to build capacity recently agreed by our Partnership Board. The Clinical Director and Deputy Clinical Director will be key in supporting the delivery of our strategic objectives with a focus on engaging the healthcare workforce (across all professions) in the delivery of clinical research.

The Host Trust seek to appoint two exceptional individuals for the high profile roles of Clinical Director and Deputy Clinical Director until 31st March 2023 (End of the current contract term). The post holders will use their practical knowledge of the health and social care environment, passion for clinical research and outstanding collaborative skills to provide local leadership to the Network. They will ensure that providers of NHS services in the North West are supported to make a full contribution in the area of clinical research.

Applicants will have an established track record as strategic clinicians, able to demonstrate experience of leading highly talented clinical staff to effectively deliver goals and achieve results which make the NIHR CRN vision a reality. Working in partnership with the Chief Operating Officer, the Clinical Director and Deputy Clinical Director will be responsible for developing CRN NWC to effectively deliver its objectives on behalf of Department of Health/NIHR. This will involve working with a variety of stakeholders at all levels, to ensure the delivery of patient focused clinical research across health and social care.

Suitable candidates for these rewarding and challenging role will combine broad and relevant senior level experience with a demonstrable record of delivery and innovation in change management, with experience of undertaking research in the NHS and as a clinical investigator. Personal attributes include the requirement to provide inspirational leadership, a flexible approach, strong negotiation, influencing and communication skills. Candidates will be required to have previous experience as a clinical investigator undertaking research in the NHS. Experience of senior board level engagement is essential. All candidates must be registered on the GMC Specialist Register or have equivalent professional status.
