Training: SoECAT — 31 January 2024

Date: 31 January 2024
Time: 09:30 to 11:30
Location: North West London (virtual session)

What to expect

The way in which Excess Treatment Costs (ETCs) are paid for clinical research changed in October 2018. Researchers are now required to complete a new form known as a ‘Schedule of Events Cost Attribution Template (SoECAT)’ for clinical research when applying for funding. SoECAT is designed to capture the different costs associated with clinical research and attribute them accordingly.

In addition, SoECAT must be signed off by an AcoRD specialist before it can be submitted to the funders and HRA.

This is a highly interactive and practical course that will enable research management staff to complete and review SoECATs for clinical research studies. During the session, each attendee will be completing a SoECAT for an actual research project on a personal computer. Furthermore, the course will cover the process for managing Excess Treatment Costs in England.

The following topics will be covered on the course:

  • Revision of AcoRD principles
  • Overview of the new process for managing ETCs in England
  • Thresholds and ETC payments
  • SoECAT (including practical work)
  • North West London process

Prerequisites

Attendees must either complete ‘Introduction to AcoRD’ before enrolling in this course or possess a good understanding of the AcoRD guidance. The course assumes that the attendees can already attribute research activities to correct cost categories.
