Text on screen: Bethan Jenkins Research Story

Text on screen: Please tell us a little about yourself

Bethan: My name is Bethan Jenkins, I am a dietician by background.

I have got several roles at the moment, so I work part-time as the lead clinical adult dietician at University Hospital Southampton where my specialty is critical care.

And then I also have a role within the NIHR as a pre-doctoral clinical academic fellow,

where I am doing some research into enteral feeding intolerance in critical care primarily.

Text on screen: What does your role involve on a day to day basis?

Bethan: So everyday is different. I do my research for two days a week, So that can be, reading papers, reviewing the literature.

I've been writing some literature reviews, so it might be writing, it might be analysing the data.

I'm also at the moment doing a survey into gastric residual volume monitoring in critical care.

And a study into the prevalence of enteral feeding intolerance in critical care. So at the moment I'm doing a lot of data collection, chasing up of survey responses, cleansing the data for my prevalence study.

Then I'll be moving into the analysis and the writing up stage soon. So everyday is different, it depends sort of what I've got on.

Text on screen: What will you be working on in the next six months?

Bethan: At the moment I'm doing a survey on gastric residual volume monitoring across UK intensive care units. So I'm focusing on the data collection for that at the moment.

So I really want to get that finished, chase up all the responses and then get that analysed and written up, so that's going to be my focus for the next six months.

Text on screen: Tell us something about you that we wouldn't learn from your CV.

Bethan: I'm mum to two teenage boys and three miniature dachshunds, so I've got a very busy house and hectic home life. I like to travel and I also like going to live music, festivals, concerts, those sorts of things.
