Case study: South London researcher determined for CRN to contribute to palliative care research
Read about CRN South London's role in supporting palliative care research.
Researcher Dr Sabrina Bajwah is determined that CRN South London will continue to make a substantial contribution to palliative care research in England in 2021-2022.
The Network’s role is to help to increase the opportunities for people to take part in health and social care research. A total of 244 people were recruited to palliative care studies in south London in 2020-2021, which was the highest recorded in the country.
King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust’s Palliative Care Consultant Dr Bajwah, who is also CRN South London’s Research Specialty Lead for Palliative Care, said:
“Palliative care researchers and teams across south London have worked tirelessly to ensure that patients can benefit from taking part in health research. I’d like to thank all of them for their dedication in supporting these vital studies, despite the ongoing pressures of delivering frontline care during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“My hope for this year is that we will not only continue to drive forward recruitment in the NHS but also from other community settings such as hospices. It is very important that patients, carers and members of the public have equal opportunities to access palliative care research.”
More than 99,000 people were recruited to research studies in south London from across 30 specialties in 2020-2021.
CRN South London’s Senior Research Delivery Manager Andra Cosma said: “I’d like to congratulate Sabrina, palliative care researchers, research study teams and other support staff for this really impressive achievement.
“This Network will always stand shoulder to shoulder with our partners and the wider scientific community in delivering high-quality health and social care research, including drug trials that people can access in south London.”
