Case study: Meet our new Join Dementia Professional Research Champion

CRN WM recruits a new JDR Professional Champion

Joanna Davies, who is a Trainer at Shropshire Partners in Care (SPiC) has recently signed up to be a Professional Research Champion for Join Dementia Research, a service which allows people to register their interest in participating in dementia research and be matched to suitable studies.

The service delivers new opportunities for people to play their part in beating dementia; connecting researchers with people who want to participate in studies.

Joanna says: ‘Joining JDR has meant a great deal to me, I understand that dementia is a huge challenge and that it impacts not only on the person and their families but on society as a whole.

‘I recognise that people with dementia are the experts of experience who can provide a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the condition. I believe that through working together, researching and developing new strategies we can provide support to those living with dementia and implement future plans.

‘Through my role as a dementia trainer, I regularly consult with numerous care providers, care staff, people with dementia and local authorities. I intend to discuss the importance of research, raise awareness and encourage them to sign up to JDR.’

Nicky Jaques, Chief Officer for SPiC adds: ‘We are delighted to support this and to be a part of Join Dementia Research in the Professional Research Champion role. Dementia is affecting more people each year and raising awareness of this is vital. Research is essential to enable us to continue to support all those who live with dementia, along with their families and loved ones. This brings a real opportunity for SPiC to positively encourage and promote the benefits of this research work with all our Care Provider members across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin’.
